The Imagination Library
Dolly Parton Imagination Library of Elmore County
United Way is now operating the Imagination Library in the River Region.
We are so glad to have been able to offer this service of the Imagination Library to the families of Elmore County. Unfortunately, due to a lack of financial support, we cannot continue this service at the current time. Therefore it is temporarily closed until further notice. While this program is completely free for the parent and child, the Alabama Parent Education Center covers the financial costs. At this time, we thank you for understanding our situation. We look forward to one day offering this service to the county again.
If you have any questions, or if we can be of further assistance, please call our office and let us know (334) 567-2252.
In 1996, Dolly Parton launched an exciting new effort, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, to benefit the children of her home county in east Tennessee. Dolly’s vision was to foster a love of reading among her county’s preschool children and their families by providing them with the gift of a specially selected book each month.
By mailing high quality, age-appropriate books directly to their homes, she wanted children to be excited about books and to feel the magic that books can create. Moreover, she could insure that every child would have books, regardless of their family’s income.
In 2008, the Alabama Parent Education Center became an affiliate partner to provide the program’s services to Elmore County children under five years of age. The Imagination Library of Elmore County exists to improve early childhood literacy for Elmore County children.
The program is funded and supported by generous community businesses partners and individual donors.
