Fathers Forward

"All children deserve a loving father who is actively involved in their life."

Fathers Forward, an APEC Fatherhood Initiative Program is generously funded by the Children's Trust Fund of Alabama.

This project was designed to reduce childhood abuse and neglect by encouraging the increased involvement of fathers.

National Fatherhood Initiative - National Fatherhood Initiative’s mission is to improve the well being of children by increasing the proportion of children growing up with involved, responsible, and committed fathers. Institute for Responsible Fatherhood & Family Revitalization - The Institute for Responsible Fatherhood & Family Revitalization a home-based grassroots non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging fathers to become involved in the lives of their children in a loving, compassionate, and nurturing way. The program began sixteen years ago in Cleveland, Ohio and to date has served more than 4,000 fathers in six cities. www.responsiblefatherhood.org

Radio Dad - This is the web home of the "Radio Dad"! "Radio Dad with Mike Austin" is heard on radio stations nationwide, Monday - Friday. This daily, one minute feature offers tips, ideas, expert interviews and stories about positive fatherhood and grandfather-hood. www.radiodad.com

Be a Fan of Your Kid! - Whether it's doing homework together, playing catch or reading a story, fathers can enjoy being a fan of their kid. This public service campaign provides tips, suggestions and resources for fathers on positive fathering and role modeling. This program provides a wealth of information on positive fathering skills and a forum to learn from both experts and other dads, plus sharing resources, activities, and experiences about fatherhood. www.beafanofyourkid.org

Center for Successful Fathering - Center for Successful Fathering's mission is to increase the awareness of men and women about the essential role fathers play in raising their children, provide dads and potential fathers with timely and relevant skills, develop and disseminate fathering information, and remove the misconception that fathers are obsolete. www.fathering.org

The Alabama Parent Education Center's Fathers Forward program, in partnership with A Seed Inc, St. James Family Worship, Elmore County Department of Human Resources, and Elmore County District Circuit Court Child Support Division, provides programming to assist Elmore County fathers to connect with their children legally, emotionally, and financially.

Our services include:

  • Individual Assistance and Planning
    Our program staff work individually with participants to create an Individual Development Plan to assist them with overcoming barriers to education, gainful employment, and parenting skills.
  • Fathers Classes
    Classes are designed for Dads to increase their parenting skills. Sessions include the 24/7 Dad Class, Resource Sessions (to connect Dads to community resources), and Skill Sessions (to develop employment skills, assist with education preparation and activities designed to assist Dads in planning time with their children).
  • Mentoring Support
    Mentoring support is provided by community volunteers to help program participants connect with other Dads. Program Mentors help Fathers Forward participants with educational attainment, employment preparation, and in their development of positive parenting skills.
  • Fathering Information
    Are you looking for additional opportunities to improve your dad skills? Fathers forward publishes a semi-annual newsletter for Dads to discuss positive parenting and activities for you and your children. Our program also has an information library including books, tipsheets, videos, and other materials for free.
  • Newsletters
